Selfie Stand Setup Guide
Everything arrives in one rolling case. Setup takes 15 to 20 minutes, nobody needs to have done it before, and the whole thing is written out below with a video and a PDF to match.

Before you start
Five things to line up first
Sort these out before you open the case and the rest goes quickly.

Power
You need access to a standard wall outlet. A 10 foot extension cord comes with every rental, so plan to be within reach of one.

Space
We recommend at least 10 feet by 10 feet for the photo experience, so a group can pile in without backing into a table.

A flat, level floor
Open the rolling case on a level surface and build the Selfie Stand right next to it. Carpet is fine, a slope is not.

The hardware pouch
A small black velvet pouch travels in the case. It holds the bolts and the T-handle tool, and it is the only tool you need.

That is the whole build, without rushing. Do it the afternoon before if you would rather not think about it on the day.

Step by step
Build the Selfie Stand
Eleven steps, in order. Green dots on the parts line up with each other, which is how you know a piece is facing the right way.

Unpack the parts
Set the rolling case on a level floor and open it. Lift out the top tube, the bottom tube and the baseplate, and set them down carefully where you have room to work.
Take the hardware pouch, the small black velvet bag, out of the case. Then flip the bottom tube upside down and rest the baseplate on top of it.

Attach the baseplate
Line up the green dot on the bottom tube with the green dot on the baseplate. That is what gets the Selfie Stand facing the right way once it is standing up.
Install four bolts and tighten them with the T-handle tool.
Tighten the bolts snug and be careful not to over tighten them.

Flip the lower assembly upright
Pull the power cord out of the bottom of the tube and run it through the long cord channel in the baseplate.
Then flip the whole assembly over so the baseplate is sitting flat on the ground.

Check the power blocks in the lower tube
Look inside the lower tube and make sure every power cord and power block is securely installed in the power strip.
Pull the three power cords up out of the top of the tube so they are ready for the next step.

Connect the cords between the tubes
Connect the two black power cords to the power blocks in the top tube.
Connect the USB-C cord to the white power block in the lower tube.

Install the top tube
Place the top tube onto the bottom tube, lining up the green dots again. Check that every cord is inside the tube and none of them are pinched.
The top tube should sit flush, with all four bolt holes lined up.

Bolt the two tubes together
Install and tighten four bolts to secure the top tube to the bottom tube.
Tighten the bolts snug and be careful not to over tighten them.

Attach the head assembly
Feed the wiring pigtail up through the oval opening in the top of the pivoter.
Use the two front guide pins to line up the bolt holes, then lower the head assembly into place.

Fasten the head assembly
Install and tighten two bolts at the rear of the head assembly base to secure it to the pivoter.
Tighten the bolts snug and be careful not to over tighten them.

Connect the head power cords
Push the head assembly forward to its maximum forward angle. That opens up enough room to reach the head pigtail and the pivoter pigtail.
Connect the power cords for the ring light and the iPad, then tip the head back to where you want it.

Power it up and start the experience
Plug the extension cord into a standard 120 VAC outlet. Turn on the ring light by turning the rear switch clockwise. A quarter to a half power is usually right, depending on how much light is already in the room.
The iPad wakes into your custom start screen. Take one test photo and send it to yourself so you know sharing is working, then leave it sitting on the start screen and let your guests take it from there.

Packing it back up
Everything has a spot. Pack in this order and it all fits.
Make sure the case is on a level surface.
Place the head assembly in the bottom of the case.
Place the square foam pad on top of the diffuser.
Place the base plate in next.
Place the square foam pad on top of the base plate.
Place the bottom tower piece in next.
Place the rectangle foam pad separator next to the tower piece.
Place the top tower piece in next.
The hardware pouch and the bolts ride back in the case too. If something will not sit flat, take it out and check the order above rather than forcing the lid.
Pickup and shipping
Getting the photo booth, and getting it back
This page is mostly for self-serve clients. Here is how the rest of it works.
Self-serve
One rolling case, there and back
Pick the photo booth up in West Des Moines one to three days before your event, and bring it back within three days after. If you would rather not drive, we ship by UPS anywhere in the United States, which averages $60 to $75 each way.
Standard backdrops are available for self-serve pickup events. They are not available for shipped events, though every digital backdrop still is.
Either way it arrives packed in a rolling case with these instructions included, you need access to power, and a 10 foot extension cord comes with the rental. We recommend at least 10 feet by 10 feet of space for the photo experience.

How long does setup really take?
15 to 20 minutes the first time, and less after that. Full step-by-step instructions come in the case, and they are the same ones written out on this page.
Do I need any tools of my own?
No. The T-handle tool and every bolt travel in the black velvet hardware pouch inside the rolling case. Nothing else is needed.
A bolt will not line up. What did I miss?
Check the green dots first. Each tube has a green dot that has to line up with the dot on the piece it is joining. If the holes are not lining up, lift the piece, rotate it and set it back down. Also check that the top tube is sitting flush and no cord is caught between the two pieces.
How tight should the bolts be?
Snug. Tighten them until they stop and then leave them alone. Over tightening is the one thing that can damage the hardware.
What do I need from the venue?
Access to power, and a 10 foot extension cord comes with every rental. We recommend at least 10 feet by 10 feet of space for the photo experience so a group has room to pile in.
How bright should the ring light be?
Usually between a quarter and a half power, depending on how much light is already in the room. Turn the rear switch clockwise to bring it up and judge it on a test photo.
When do I pick it up and bring it back?
Pickup is from West Des Moines one to three days before your event, and it comes back within three days after. Shipped events go out by UPS instead, which averages $60 to $75 each way.
Something is not working and my event starts in an hour.
Email hello@snapXP.com with what you are seeing and we will get you sorted. In the meantime, go back to steps 4, 5 and 10 and check that every cord is still seated, and make sure the extension cord is live at the wall.
